Bachelors of Fine Art Photography, 2009 SUNY Purchase: School of Art and Design
I first fell in love with the art of photography and documenting abandoned places at Kings Park Psychiatric Center in 2003. I grew up nearby and have always had an intense curiosity and gravitational pull to the area. The architecture, decay, light and most importantly the history is what got me here and what keeps me coming back.
To me, documenting these forgotten or overlooked spaces is my love language to that moment, that place and the lives that were connected to them. A moment that I am grateful and fortunate to have been alive to witness and experience before the structure is demolished.
These spaces are better than a museum experience. To me, it is like time travel back to a world long gone, soon to be forgotten if they’re not documented. Through my photography, I explore the literal world around me, while exploring my own emotions and feelings that arise while at these locations. I hope my images pass along the beauty that I experienced in front me. Even if it may not be intrinsically “beautiful”…
